The festival of Sakat Chauth is celebrated with various names across India, including Til Kuta Chauth, Vakratundi Chauth, Sankat Chauth, and Maghi Chauth. On this day, women observe a fast for the well-being and prosperity of their children and family members. The Chaturthi Tithi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the remover of obstacles. By fasting and worshipping, devotees seek Lord Ganesha's blessings to overcome challenges in life.
The Sakat Chauth fast, observed in the Magh month, holds special significance for women who pray for their children's long life and well-being. It is believed that this fast brings an end to troubles and ushers in happiness and prosperity. According to legend, Lord Ganesha circumambulated Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva on this day, making the fast even more auspicious. Sakat Chauth 2025: Rituals
To worship Lord Ganesh, devotees thoroughly clean their homes and begin puja preparations early in the morning. Following a refreshing bath, they meticulously arrange the idol of Lord Ganesh, light diyas and incense sticks, and place a kalash on top. As part of the rituals, they recite the Ganesh Ashtottara to please Lord Ganesh and invite his blessings into their homes.
On this auspicious day, devotees offer special prayers and make traditional offerings, such as til kut or til ka ladoo, to Lord Ganesha. It is customary to prepare these laddoos with Gur and Til. In the evening, they chant special prayers, observe the Sakat Chauth vrat, and perform the Sakat Chauth Aarti to commemorate the stories behind the celebrations. Alongside Lord Ganesh, devotees also pay homage to Sakat Mata, seeking her blessings for a child.
As the day comes to a close, fasting women offer an Argya, a mixture of water and milk, to the moon god, praying for good health, abundance, prosperity, and happiness. After making this offering, they break their fast by eating the til laddoo, bringing the day's festivities to a joyful conclusion.
