Sandhi Puja 2025: Significance

Sandhikshan or Sandhi Puja is a sacred moment during Ashtami and Navami, marking the transition between Goddess Durga's fierce battles and triumphs. Lasting 48 minutes, this auspicious period is when the goddess, as Chamunda, vanquished demons Chanda and Munda. Devotees believe that worshipping during Sandhikshan yields immense blessings and fulfils desires. According to legend, Lord Rama performed this puja in the Treta Yuga, seeking Goddess Durga's blessings to defeat Ravana. By honouring this tradition, devotees tap into the divine energy, seeking protection, strength and victory in their own lives, just as Lord Rama did.

Sandhi Puja 2025: Rituals

During Sandhi Puja, devotees fast until the ritual concludes. The ceremony features 108 lit diyas, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of dhak, sonkho, ghanta and ulu dhoni, the puja is believed to dispel negativity and evil energies. Offerings of 108 lotus flowers represent beauty and life, while 108 garlands of bel leaves, along with sarees, jewellery and fruits, are presented to the Goddess. The blowing of sonkho and sprinkling of holy water further purify the atmosphere. The ritual concludes with Aarti and Havan, invoking Goddess Durga's blessings and protection. The significance of 108 reflects the 108 names of Ma Durga, amplifying the spiritual potency of the puja.
