Sankashti Chaturthi April 2025: Sankathara Chaturthi or Sankashti Chaturthi is observed by Hindu devotees on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha during every lunar cycle as per the Hindu Calendar. On this sacred day, devotees observe a fast and worship Lord Ganesha - the beloved Hindu deity who is considered to be the remover of all obstacles. According to the Hindu legends, it is believed that performing the ritualistic worship of Lord Ganesha on this day blesses the devotees with good fortune, health and abundance. Sankashti Chaturthi April 2025: Significance

The Hindu texts explain the origin of Sankatahara Chaturthi, with a legend featuring Narada Rishi and Lord Ganesha. According to that legend, Sage Narad advised King Suryanarayana to observe this fast to overcome obstacles and sufferings. Following Narad Muni’s guidance, the king observed this fast and as a result he was successfully able to navigate the challenges through Lord Ganesha’s blessings. This tale has led devotees to believe that sincerely observing the fast of Sankashti Chaturthi can remove hardships and help fulfil desires. By worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day, devotees seek to eliminate obstacles and achieve their goals.

Sankashti Chaturthi April 2025: Rituals

On Sankashti Chaturthi, devotees observe a fast from sunrise to moonrise. Some devotees observe a strict fast while others observe a partial fast, consuming only fruits and milk.

Devotees perform Ganpati Puja in the morning. They set up and decorate the Lord Ganpati altar. They offer fruits, durva grass, sindoor, modak, coconut and akshat to Lord Ganesha and perform his aarti. Additionally, reciting Ganesha Mantras and stuti on this day is considered favourable.

The moon holds significance in Sankatahara Chaturthi and devotees eagerly await the moonrise. The fast of Sankashti Chaturthi culminates only after the moonrise and offering Arghya to the moon. After worshipping the moon, devotees perform Lord Ganesha’s puja and perform parana of the day-long fast.
