Navratri 2023: Kalash Sthapana Significance

The Kalash or metal pot stands in for a number of things. The womb, which is known for fostering life, and the earth are both regarded to be containers of fertility. The pleasure-related part of fertility is symbolised by the mango leaves, which are thought to represent Kama, the deity of love. The coconut is a symbol of strength and prosperity. The Kalash sthapana is considered to bring luck and positivity, and Navratri wouldn't be complete without it.

- When you wake up in the morning, the first thing to do is take a bath. The area where the Kalash will be put needs to be cleaned first along with the temple altar of your home.

- The Kalash sthapana should only be done amid a shubh muhurat (auspicious timings).

- On the wooden platform, place a red cloth and while chanting mantras, cover the red cloth with some akshat (raw and whole rice).

- Create an altar out of some topsoil, plant the barley seeds inside of it, then lay the Kalash on top of the soil and pour some water on it. Use the vermillion paste to create a swastika and fasten a holy thread around the Kalash's neck.
