According to Hindu legends, Maa Durga arrives on earth every year to bless her devotees during these nine days. This year's Navratri will last for ten days, concluding on October 2nd with Vijayadashami. Every year, Maa Durga arrives on a different vehicle or Mata Ki Sawari. The vehicle Maa Durga arrives on has significant implications for the coming year. According to astrological calculations, Maa Durga will arrive on an elephant this year. Know if this vehicle is auspicious or inauspicious.
Shardiya Navratri 2025 Mata Ki Sawari: Maa Durga To Arrive On Elephant - Know If It Is Auspicious
According to the Shrimad Devi Bhagavat Mahapuran, the arrival and departure of Maa Durga during Navratri is determined by the day on which Navratri begins and ends. This year, Navratri commences on Monday, 22 September, and concludes with Vijayadashami on 2 October.
The ancient verse explains:
शशिसूर्ये गजारूढ़ा , शनिभौमे तुरंगमे ।
गुरुशुक्रे च दोलायां बुधे नौका प्रकीर्तिता ।।
फलम् - गजे च जलदा देवी , छत्रभङ्ग तुरंगमे ।
नौकायां सर्व सिद्धिस्यात् दोलायां मरणं धुव्रम् ।।
“Shashisurye gajaaroodha, Shanibhoume turangame,
Gurushukre cha dolayaam, Budhe noukaa prakeertitaa.
Phalam - gaje cha jalaa da devi, chatrabhanga turangame,
Noukaayaam sarva siddhisyat, dolayaam maranam dhruvam.”
This verse means that if Navratri starts on a Sunday or Monday, the Goddess arrives on an elephant. People believe this is a very good sign. It means good rainfall, successful farming, more milk and plenty of wealth for everyone.
If the festival starts on a Saturday or Tuesday, she arrives on a horse. This might bring political trouble, maybe even governments losing power. When she arrives on a Thursday or Friday, she sits on a swing, which means arguments, fights or big accidents might happen. But if she arrives on a Wednesday, she comes on a boat, which means happiness, wealth and wishes coming true.
This year, Navratri starts on Monday, September 22. This means Goddess Durga will arrive on an elephant, bringing good luck and blessings to all, so, the Mata Ki Sawari in 2025 is highly auspicious.
