Surya Grahan 2024: A total solar eclipse will occur across North America on April 8, 2024, going over Canada, the United States, and Mexico. However, this Surya Grahan will not be visible in India. When the Moon entirely obscures the Sun's face as it moves between the Sun and the Earth, it is known as a total solar eclipse. While the majority of people gaze on the sun and moon, at totality, the height of the eclipse, people's surroundings will appear different.

1. Shadow Snakes 

Shadow bands are one of the uncommon sights to be on the lookout for during a total solar eclipse. According to NASA, just before and after a complete solar eclipse, "shadow bands are thin, wavy lines of alternating light and dark that can be seen moving and undulating in parallel on plain-coloured surfaces." Since their wavy motion might resemble snakes writhing on the ground, some people sometimes refer to these as shadow snakes. Not every eclipse coincides with this phenomenon, so there's no assurance that observers will catch them on April 8. If they do show up, they will only be seen right before and right after totality.

2. 360 Degree Sunrise And Sunset 

Even though everyone will be staring up at the sky, there is another view below that not many people have seen. The colours of dawn and sunset may be seen all around spectators during totality if they look towards the horizon. The light from the sun in regions outside of the path of totality creates this 360-degree sunset appearance, which only lasts as long as the moon is totally obstructing the sun.

3. Visibility Of Certain Planets And Stars In The Sky 

The stars and a few planets will be visible in the night sky when the moon turns day into night. It is not worth spending too much time searching for planets and constellations because they are visible at night in various seasons of the year. On April 8, Venus and Jupiter will be in a comparable part of the sky to the sun, so it will be simple to detect them due to the eclipse. The corona, or region of heated gas around the sun, will also be visible because of the celestial alignment.

4. Drop In Temperature 

The eclipse will change the way the surroundings feel as well as how they seem. The eclipse will alter the appearance of the surroundings as well as the way they feel. Twilight brings with it a noticeable cooling of the surroundings as the light disappears. As per NASA, in the event of a total solar eclipse, the same phenomenon happens when darkening occurs.

5. Effect On The Behaviour Of Animals 

Animals can be tricked by the sudden darkness during the day, and depending on the kinds of animals present during the eclipse in April, observers may be able to witness the unusual animal behaviours firsthand. Researchers from Cornell University and the University of Oxford discovered in a study done during the 2017 Great American Eclipse that the shift in sunlight had caused "birds to become confused" in the seconds preceding totality.
