Swaminarayan Jayanti 2024: On the Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra, Lord Swaminarayan was born. Thus, the celebration of Ram Navami also commemorates Lord Swaminarayan's birth anniversary. On this day, the devotees of Lord Swaminarayan offer prayers to him by reciting his holy texts. Through reciting prayers devoted to his good karma, they honour the deity. Devotees engage in in-depth conversations on spiritualism as it is taught by Lord Swaminarayan. This year, Swaminarayan Jayanti is being celebrated on 17th April 2024.  On the occasion of Swaminarayan Jayanti, let us know significant details about this mystic yogi. 

Swaminarayan Jayanti 2024: Who Is Lord Swaminarayan? 

- When Lord Swaminarayan was younger, he went by the name Ghanshyam. Lord Swaminarayan's mother, Bhakti Mata, gave him the name Ghanashyam, although his father used to refer to him as Dharma Dev.

- In the Kaushal District town of Chapaiya, close to Ayodhya, Lord Swaminarayan was born. Considering his holy attributes, Sage Markanday bestowed upon him several more titles. As a result, Nilkantha and Hari Krishan were other names given to him. 

- The Swaminarayan Sampradaya originated around the yogi and ascetic Swaminarayan, also known as Sahajanand Swami. His devotees considered him to be a manifestation of Krishna or the pinnacle of Purushottama.

- With the name Sahajanand Swami, he was accepted into the Uddhava Sampradaya in 1800 by his master, Swami Ramanand. 

- The Swaminarayan tradition states that during a gathering when he taught his disciples the Swaminarayan Mantra, Sahajanand Swami became known as Swaminarayan and the Uddhava Sampradaya as the Swaminarayan Sampradaya.

- He placed a strong emphasis on ahimsa and "moral, personal, and social betterment." Within the sect, he is also known for his work implementing reforms for the underprivileged and women, as well as for organising mass nonviolent fire sacrifices, or yajñas.

- In a number of ways, Swaminarayan institutionalised his charisma and convictions during his lifetime. In order to support his followers' devout worship of God, he constructed six mandirs. He also promoted the establishment of a scriptural tradition, that included the Shikshapatri which he penned in 1826.
