Swarna Gowri Vratha 2024: Significance
Dedicated to Goddess Gowri, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, Gowri Habba or Swarna Gowri Vratha is a revered Hindu festival predominantly celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Observed on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, this auspicious occasion sees devotees worship Goddess Gowri, embodying Goddess Parvati's fair complexion. Married women undertake the Swarna Gowri Vratha, seeking blessings for a harmonious and fulfilling marital life. According to tradition, Goddess Gowri is believed to have visited her parental home on this day, only to be accompanied by her son, Lord Ganesha, the following day, symbolizing his arrival to escort her back to Mount Kailasha. This festival is also observed as Hartalika Teej in Maharashtra and other North Indian states.

Swarna Gowri Vratha 2024: Pooja Vidhana
The rituals associated with Swarna Gowri Vratha, or Gowri Habba, are steeped in tradition and significance. On the day preceding Ganesh Chaturthi, married women arise early, bathe, and don traditional attire. They then create an elaborate rangoli, a floral design, at the entrance of their homes, symbolising the welcoming of Goddess Gowri. A sacred kalasha, a water vessel, is filled with water and adorned with mango leaves, coconut, and flowers, representing the goddess. Women then worship Goddess Gowri, offering prayers, flowers, fruits, and sweets, seeking her blessings for a happy and harmonious married life.
The Swarna Gowri Vratha involves tying a sacred thread, known as "Gowri Kankanam," on the wrist, signifying devotion and commitment to their husbands. The evening is marked by the preparation of traditional sweets and offerings, which are then distributed among family and friends, fostering a sense of community and spiritual connection. Through these rituals, devotees seek to emulate the virtues of Goddess Gowri, embodying marital bliss, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
