Tirupati Balaji Jayanti 2024: Significance

Hindus consider Balaji Jayanti a highly auspicious occasion. According to Hindu legends, Lord Vishnu took the form of Balaji to uplift humanity and rid the earth of evil. On this day, devotees also worship him as Lord Venkatesh. The Tirupati Temple is revered as Lord Vishnu's celestial abode, 'Vaikunth', in the current era.

By wholeheartedly worshipping Lord Balaji, devotees believe they can overcome fears and achieve lasting happiness and success. Praying to Lord Venkatesh on Balaji Jayanti is thought to fulfil one's desires. Lord Balaji guides his devotees towards peace and inspires them to help others. Those who perform Lord Balaji puja with dedication are also believed to attain salvation, or 'moksha', in the end.

Tirupati Balaji Jayanti 2024: Rituals

Preparations for Balaji Jayanti begin well in advance. Temples are thoroughly cleaned and beautifully decorated with flowers. Lord Balaji is adorned with new clothes and jewellery, adding to the festive atmosphere. On the day of the celebration, devotees wake up at dawn, take an early bath, and perform the 'Angapradakshina' ritual around the temple.

Devotees worship Lord Balaji with full devotion, love, and faith. In the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple, thousands gather for the evening Maha Aarti ceremony. After the rituals, prasad is distributed among the devotees. Many also celebrate Balaji Jayanti at home, offering kumkum, garlands, and other sacred items to Lord Balaji's image or idol.

Chanting Vedic mantras like 'Om Namo Narayana' is considered highly rewarding on this day. These devotional acts purify the soul and bring the person closer to the Supreme Being. In some communities, devotees also offer their hair to Lord Balaji, symbolising the surrender of ego and negative feelings.
