Tirupati Balaji Jayanti 2024 December: Why Lord Venkateswara Has Two Wives?

As per Hindu legends, Tirupati Balaji, also known as Lord Venkateswara is revered as a divine being with two consorts, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Padmavathi. This unique marital bond is rooted in the legend of Lord Venkateswara's incarnation on earth. According to the legend, Lord Venkateswara took the form of a human being to save humanity from the troubles of the Kali Yuga.

Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, was already married to Lord Vishnu, an incarnation of Lord Venkateswara. However, when Lord Venkateswara incarnated on earth, Goddess Lakshmi accompanied him, but refused to leave the heavenly abode without her husband's permission. To resolve this dilemma, Lord Venkateswara married Goddess Padmavathi, a princess of the earth, while Goddess Lakshmi remained his consort in spirit.

This unique marital arrangement is symbolic of the divine union between the spiritual and material realms. Lord Venkateswara's two wives represent the dual aspects of human nature: the spiritual and the material. By acknowledging and respecting both aspects, devotees seek to achieve a balance between their spiritual and material lives.
