Utpanna Ekadashi 2025 is celebrated on the first Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Margashirsha. It is considered a very sacred and fruitful fast. According to scriptures, fasting on this day eradicates all sins and brings peace, happiness, and prosperity to life. According to religious legends, Goddess Ekadashi was born on the sacred occasion of Utpanna Ekadashi. It is said that when the atrocities of the demon Mura increased, Lord Vishnu created Goddess Ekadashi with his powers. The goddess killed the demon, and hence, it was called "Utpanna Ekadashi." It is considered the original and first Ekadashi among all Ekadashis.

According to the Panchang, Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat will be observed on 15th November 2025. Ekadashi tithi begins at 12:49 AM on 15th November 2025 and ends at 02:37 AM on 16th November 2025.

The parana timings for the vrat of Utpanna Ekadashi will be from 09:09 AM to 09:36 AM on 16th November 2025.

Utpanna Ekadashi 2025: Significance And Rituals

Each Ekadashi has a different significance. On the Ekadashi Tithi in Margashirsha, the demon Mura was about to attack Lord Vishnu who was in Yog Nidra. Goddess Ekadashi appeared, fought with Mura, and put an end to him. As mentioned before, since Goddess Ekadashi originated on this day, this Ekadashi is called Utpanna Ekadashi. Those who wish to begin the Ekadashi fast can do so from Utpanna Ekadashi. It is believed that Lord Vishnu erases the sins and grants liberation to all those who fast on this auspicious day.

On the sacred day of Utpanna Ekadashi, the devotees must wake up before sunrise, take a sacred bath and worship Lord Krishna during the Brahma Muhurta. The devotee must also worship Shri Ekadashi Devi and Lord Vishnu. Reciting sacred texts like Shrimad Bhagavatam, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Vishnu Sahastranama on this day brings auspicious results. The devotees must also engage in charitable activities.
