Goddess Parvati asked Lord Ganesha about the significance of worshipping him on Kartika Krishna Chaturthi, also known as Sankata Chaturthi. By observing this fast, devotees can attain all accomplishments and overcome obstacles. Lord Ganesha's words filled Goddess Parvati with joy, and she felt proud of her son's greatness.

The story goes back to the time when the gods were driven out of heaven by the demons. Lord Vishnu advised the gods to seek the help of Sage Agastya, who could drink up the ocean and force the demons to return to their origin.
