Varuthini Ekadashi 2025: Vrat Katha
King Yudhishthira questioned Lord Krishna regarding the Varuthini Ekadashi, the 11th day of the waning moon during the month of Vaishakh. Lord Krishna clarified that this sacred fast helps the devotees remove sin and leads to liberation. He recited the history of King Mandhata, a charitable and ascetic king.
King Mandhata was attacked by a bear when he was meditating in the forest. In spite of the pain, the king did not stop his meditation and prayed to Lord Vishnu. The Lord came and slew the bear with his Chakra. But the leg of the king was already hurt and he was upset. Lord Vishnu instructed the king to follow the Varuthini Ekadashi vow to recover his health and strength.
The king took the vow and prayed to Lord Vishnu's Varaha avatar. Subsequently, he was restored to health and eventually reached heaven. Lord Krishna reaffirmed that this vow eliminates sins and secures liberation. People who are ill or afraid may observe this sacred fast and receive protection from Lord Vishnu.
