Many ancient kings and emperors are believed to have won fierce battles due to the positive effects of this fast. The Puranas also describe the benefits of Vijaya Ekadashi fasting, stating that it can bring victory even in the most challenging circumstances. By observing this fast, individuals can overcome suffering and achieve freedom from adversity.

Vijaya Ekadashi 2025: Rituals
The observance of Vijaya Ekadashi involves a two-day fasting period, starting from the tenth day (Dashami) and ending on the twelfth day (Dwadashi) of the Hindu lunar month. During this time, devotees refrain from consuming Tamasic food and instead follow a Satvik diet. They also abstain from physical pleasures and maintain a positive mindset.
Devotees perform puja, offering prayers, flowers and sweets to Lord Vishnu. A specific ritual involves filling an urn with water, adding a twig with a newly sprouted leaf and placing an idol or photograph of Lord Vishnu on top. On the day of Ekadashi, devotees wake up early, take a bath and perform puja on the urn using sandalwood, betelnut and seven types of grains.
The rituals conclude on the sunrise of Dwadashi Tithi when the urn is taken to a water source, and a final puja is performed before donating it to a knowledgeable Brahmin. Devotees are also encouraged to donate useful items to the needy. By completing these rituals, the observance of Vijaya Ekadashi vrat is considered fulfilled, bringing spiritual benefits and positive outcomes.
Vijaya Ekadashi 2025: Vrat Katha
The story of Vijaya Ekadashi revolves around Lord Rama and his journey to rescue Mother Sita from Ravana. During the Treta Yuga, Lord Rama, accompanied by Sugriva's army was determined to fight against Ravana. However, the vast ocean stood in their way, posing a significant threat to the monkey army.
Lord Rama sought the advice of Lakshmana, who suggested consulting Wakdalbhya Munivar - a wise sage residing nearby. The sage advised Lord Rama to observe the Ekadashi fast on the Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month along with his army. He assured them that this fast would enable them to successfully cross the sea and conquer Lanka.
Lord Rama and his army followed the sage's instructions and observed the Ekadashi fast. With the blessings of this fast, they built the Ram Setu and launched a successful attack on Lanka, defeating Ravana's army and rescuing Mother Sita. This remarkable victory was attributed to the power of the Vijaya Ekadashi fast.
