Vyasa Puja is observed on the Purnima tithi in the month of Ashadha. This day is devoted to Maharishi Ved Vyas and marks his birth anniversary. On this day, disciples revere and offer appreciation to their gurus. This day is also known as Vyasa Purnima. This year, Vyasa Puja will be observed on 21st July 2024.

Vyasa Puja 2024: Who Is Maharishi Ved Vyas

Many of Hinduism's most well-known and significant spiritual books, such as the Vedas, the 18 Puranas, and the Mahabharata, the biggest epic poem in the world, are attributed to the revered Sage Veda Vyasa. According to Hindu traditions, Sage Ved Vyasa was born during the Dvapara Yuga, which is said to have ended around 5,000 years ago.

The Vedas, which are a collection of hymns that convey important Hindu teachings on the Divine, are translated as "knowledge" in Sanskrit. The Vedas, which are thought to contain timeless truths, were transmitted orally for hundreds of years prior to being systematised by Veda Vyasa. It is stated that Vyasa expanded upon and clarified the Vedic philosophy in the Puranas and Mahabharata, which also contain the Bhagavad Gita, popularly known as the "Song of God."

Hindus learn several lessons from the life of Sage Vyasa, chief among them being his unwavering commitment to serving and watching after the well-being of others. He opted to live a surrendered life of spiritual discipline from the moment of his birth and had no interest in personal material pursuits. And because of his compassion, he assembled a vast collection of spiritual writings to offer direction to those facing what is regarded as the most trying era when he realised that Kali Yuga was about to arrive.

According to the Hindu religion, Vyasa is an immortal entity known as a Chiranjivi who chooses to stay on Earth till the end of the present Kali Yuga for the benefit of humanity. It is believed that several of the most well-known sages of the most important spiritual lineages in Hinduism, such as Madhvacharya and Adi Sankaracharya, had direct encounters with and learned from Veda Vyasa.

Vyasa Puja 2024: Birth Anniversary Of Maharishi Ved Vyas

Maharishi Vyas was the first preacher of the Vedas and the creator of the epic Mahabharata, thus his name, Ved Vyas. He is recognised as the first Guru in human history, and he is credited with teaching people about and interpreting the Vedas.

Thus, the day of Ashadh Purnima, which is also observed as Guru Purnima, is devoted to him in recognition of his grandeur and contribution to the world. Hinduism places a lot of significance on the Vyas Purnima. It assists us in following our Gurus' instructions and serves as a reminder of the value of having a Guru in our life.
