India finished their historic shooting campaign with 22 medals as Kynan Chenai won a bronze medal in the Trap Men's final on Sunday, October 1 at the Asian Games 2023.
Earlier in the day, Chenai won gold alongside Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman in the Trap men's team event to continue India's impressive run in the sport.
At once, Chenai was in the second position in the contest, making 18 out of his 20 shots, followed by his compatriot Zoravar, who had 17 out of 20 at that point in time.
However, both players had a moment of slump as Zoravar was eliminated with 23 out of 30 shots with Cheni remaining just behind the contention for the podium finish.
He then went on to move in the third place after leveling with Qatar's Mohammed Al Rumaihi at 29/35. He would then fight it out with Ying Qi of China and Talal Alrashidi as they started to push for the gold medal.
In the end, Chenai bowed out with a score of 32/40 and settled for bronze.
With this, India ended their shooting campaign with 22 medals, which is the highest for them in the discipline in Asian Games history with seven gold, nine silver and six bronze medals.
India’s previous best was three golds out of 14 medals at Doha 2006. At Jakarta 2018, India finished with nine medals, including two golds.
