Asian Games 2023 Day 2 Highlights: India End Second Day With Six Medals (2 Gold, 4 Bronze)

That's it from the second day as India end with six medals in total (2 gold, 4 bronze). India's updated tally reached to 11 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze). 

Nishant Dev gets past Nepal's Dipesh Lama in the Round of 32 to advance to the Round of 16.

In the Asian Games gymnastics competition, Pranati Nayak has secured a spot in the vault final. She finished 22nd in the all-around event with a total score of 44.232. Here are her scores for each apparatus:

India's Arundhati Choudhary is up against Liu Yang, China in Women’s 66kg, Round of 16 bout

Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy faced her first defeat by the hands of Chinese Grandmaster Hou Yifan in Round 4 women's individual game. In contrast, Harika Dronavalli, who suffered a loss in round 3, played to a draw, sharing the points with Nilufar Yakubbaeva in the fourth round.

On the men's side, India's Arjun Kumar Erigaisi continued his winning streak in the individual event, securing back-to-back victories. However, Vidit Santosh Gujarathi was held to a draw in his match.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer of this competition. She played a crucial knock of 42 runs in the final. While Pooja Vastrakar was the top wicket-taker for India Women in this edition of Asian Games. In the final match, she took one wicket.

Second seeds Rohan Bopanna & Rutuja Bhosale move into the Round-of-16 of Mixed Doubles. The Indian pair beat the Uzbekistan duo comfortably by 6-2, 6-4 in opening round.

Both Grandmasters, Arjun Kumar Erigaisi and Vidit Santosh Gujarathi beat Thailand’s Prin and Nguyen of Vietnam, respectively in the men’s individual round three.

With the defeat in the final, Sri Lanka will settle for the silver medal while Bangladesh takes bronze medal. 

India did well to end up on the right side in the low-scoring contest. After posting a chasable target, Harmanpreet Kaur was spot on with her bowling changes and keeping the brakes on the run rate. Titas Sadhu provided early breakthroughs with the spinners putting up promising support. The women in blue restricted Lankans to 97/8, picking up a 19-run victory.

The inaugural gold of women's cricket in the Asian Games belongs to India. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side won the final by 19 runs against Sri Lanka in Hangzhou, China. Second gold medal for the day for India.

Sri Lankan Women look poised to add Gold into their ranks. They need 43 runs of 30 balls, with six wickets in hand. 

After Rohan Bopanna's loss in the Men's doubles, there is some good news for the Indian fans from the tennis court. Indian women's doubles pair Rutuja Bhosale and Karman Thandi beat Kazakhstan's pair of Zhanel Rustemova and Aruzhan Sagandykovawon 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. 

The duo will be playing their second round tomorrow. 

In their opening Group B match, the Indian women's handball team faced a 41-13 defeat against Japan.

In previous editions, India secured the eighth position in 2006, 2010, and 2014, and they were ranked ninth in 2018. The team will hope to improve its standing in this edition of Asian Games.

Things look gloomy in the Indian camp as they post a total of 116 runs only in the first innings. Sri Lankan Team are 117 runs away from clinching Gold.

Indian tennis player Rutuja Bhosale secured her spot in the women's singles third round with a 7-6, 6-2 victory in Round 2.

Additionally, Ankita Raina, seeded third at the Asian Games 2023, displayed her dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Kazakhstan's Sabrina Olimjonova in the Round 2.

The Indian men's team defeated Malaysia with a score of 20-16. They will next play Macau on September 27.

In their opening match of Asian Games 2023, the Indian women's 3x3 basketball team faced a 19-14 defeat against Uzbekistan. India's next challenge will be against China in their final Pool A match on September 27. 

In a disappointing turn of events, the men's doubles tennis pair of Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri has been eliminated from the tournament. They faced a tough challenge in the second round and were defeated by the Uzbekistan duo of Sergey Fomin and Khumoyun Sultanov, with a scoreline of 3-6, 3-6.

The second-seeded pairing of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni secured a commanding victory over the Indonesian duo of David Susanto and Ignatius A. Susanto in Men's Doubles, winning with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. They are in the QFs

Vijayveer Sidhu missed out on a bronze medal in the Men's 25M Rapid Fire Air Pistol Final. He finished at the fourth place, scoring 21 shots of 30.

Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Singh has won the toss and elected to bat first in the summit clash. 

Bangladesh women's cricket team defeated Pakistan in the bronze medal match by five wickets. Bangladesh restricted Pakistan to 64/9 in 20 overs and chased the total in 18.2 overs with five wickets in hand.

Indian women's cricket team will be eyeing the historic gold when they take on Sri Lanka in the final at Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou. India defeated Bangladesh comfortably by eight wickets in the semi-final while Sri Lanka outclassed Pakistan in the semis. The winner of the match will win gold while the runners-up will take home silver medal.  

The Indian 25m rapid-fire pistol team secured the bronze medal with a combined qualification score of 1718. In this event, China took the top spot, setting a remarkable new world record of 1765, while Korea secured the second position with a total of 1734 hits.

With 1718 points, the Indian team of Vijayveer Sidhu, Anish, and Adarsh Singh won bronze. Vijayveer scored 582 points and qualified for the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol individual event. 

India clinched its first gold medal at the Asian Games in the Men's 10m Air Rifle Team event. The team, consisting of Rudrankksh, Aishwary, and Divyansh, amassed a total of 1893.7 points to secure the top spot on the podium.

In their last Pool F match at the Asian Games 2023, the Indian women's rugby sevens team suffered a 15-0 defeat to Singapore, marking the conclusion of their campaign.

Previously, India faced defeats against Hong Kong China and Japan. The Indian team couldn't secure any points throughout their matches in Hangzhou and conceded a total of 98 points across three games.

Aishwary Pratap Singh finished third in the Men's 10M Air Rifle and clinched bronze with a score of 228.8 while Rudrankkash Patil finished fourth in the event. The duo was part of India's first gold medal-winning team earlier in the day in this edition of the Games.

In the men's quadruple sculls final, India's Satnam Singh, Parminder Singh, Jakar Khan, and Sukhmeet Singh took home the bronze medal. 

Indian swimmer Nataraj advances to the men's 50-meter backstroke final after finishing in his heat with a timing of 25.43. He finished in sixth place overall.

India's Rudrankkash Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh, who placed third and fifth in the qualification round, respectively, qualify for the Men's 10m Air Rifle final.

India finally bagged their first gold medal in the coveted event as a trio of Rudrankksh, Aishwary and Divyansh finished on top in the Men's 10m Air Rifle Team event while the quartet of Jaswinder, Bheem, Punit and Ashish won bronze with a timing of 6:10.81 in rowing. 

Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar, Ashish are in action in the Men's Four Final A of Rowing. Indian team is currently third in the action behind Uzbekistan and China.

Balraj Panwar finished fourth in the Men’s Single Sculls Final with a timing of 7:08. He missed out on the podium finish as India still await its first medal of the day.

India's Balraj Panwar will compete in the finals of Men's Single Sculls event shortly. He is among the medal prospects for the country on Monday. 

Meanwhile, Jaswinder, Bheem, Punit, and Ashish will compete in the men's four final. The final of the men's quadruple will include Satnam, Parminder, Jakar, and Sukhmeet. Aswathi, Mrunamayee, Thangjam, Rukmani, Sonali, Ritu, Varsha, Tendenthoi, and Geetanjali will represent India in the women's eight final.

Shooting, the highest medal-clinching event for India, will have multiple medals to offer on Monday. Indian shooters will compete in the men's 10m air rifle (individual and team) events and also in men's 25m rapid fire pistol (individual and team) events. In men's 10m air rifle, Divyansh, Aishwary and Rudrankksh will be in action for India while Anish, Vijayveer and Adarsh will lead the challenge in men's 25m rapid fire pistol (individual and team) events.

Indian women's cricket enjoyed a very successful campaign in China so far as they registered wins against Bangladesh women in the semi-final to set up a gold medal match against Sri Lanka. For India, there is good news as regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be back to lead the side after missing the previous two games.
