Asian Games 2023 Day 8 Highlights: India Finish Eighth Day With 15 Medals Including Historic Silver Medal In Men's Badminton Team Event

That's a wrap on the eighth day as India finish the day by making history with 14 medals - three gold, six silver, and a five bronze to take the overall tally past the 50 mark. This was India's best-ever outing in a single day at in the history of the continental meet.

Despite a defeat in the final, India's badminton has created history by bagging their first-ever silver medal in the men's badminton event. 

Jyothi Yarraji's Bronze has been upgraded to the Silver Medal after the disqualification of a Chinese athlete. She was eliminated from the race for false start along with Chinese athlete. However, the replays suggested that it was the Chinese who should be under the scanner.

The final tie between India & China is locked at 2-2 now. Dhruv Kapila & Sai Pratheek lost the 4th match 6-21, 15-21. ,

Seema Punia wins the Bronze medal in women's Discus Throw.

India's Nandini Agasara wins Bronze Medal in Heptathlon 800m.

Murali Sreeshankar wins Silver Medal in men's long jump.

India's Ajay Kumar Saroj wins Silver Medal and Jinson Johnson wins Bronze Medal in men's 1500m round final.

India's Harmilan Bains wins Silver Medal in women's 1500m event.

China's Li Shifeng beat Kidambi Srikanth 2-0 to make it 1-2 for China. He defeated Srikanth 24-22 in the first game and 21-9 in the second game.

India's Tajinderpal Singh wins Gold Medal in Men's Shot Put. He won it with last attempt of 20.36m.

India's Avinash Sable wins Gold Medal in men's 3000m steeplechase event.

Dominating win for Satwik and Chirag as they make it 2-0 in favor of India. They won the first match 21-15 and clinched the victory by 21-18 in the second match.

Nikhat Zareen settles for Bronze Medal as she lost against Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat in women's 50kh semifinal.

Satwik and Chirag dominated the first game and won it 21-15 against the Chinese pair.

Satwik and Chirag will be up against Liang & Wang in he second match in the doubles category in Men's team final. Notably, India are 1-0 up at the momet.

Lakshya Sen registers a remarkable comeback in the final game to beat China's SHI Yuqi 3-2. He won the first game 22-20, lost the second 14-21, and won 21-18 to give India 1-0 lead in the finals.

SHI Yuqi was the better player in the second set by a long margin as he makes a comeback with 21-14 to make it 1-1.  

In an exciting and thrilling first set, Lakshya Sen had it all as he started with a promising lead but gave it away with some errors. Chinese player took the lead before Lakshya tied the score and won it 22-20 in the end.

Mahesh Mangaonkar reaches Pre-QF of Men's Singles while Dipika Pallikal & Harinder Pal beat beat Pakistani pair 2-0 in the Mixed Doubles event.

Kynan Chenai wins Bronze medal in Trap (Shooting).

The Indian women's hockey team is in action against Korea and they are 0-1 down with the second quarter almost finished.

HS Prannoy has picked up an injury and he will not be part of the Indian team in today's final. Mithun Manjunath will replace him.

2022 World Championships bronze medalist Parveen Hooda (57kg) entered the Asian Games 2022 semifinals with a unanimous 5-0 win against Uzbekistan's Sitora Turdibekova in the quarterfinals

Aditi Ashok wins silver at the Individual Golf event. 

As it turns out, Aditi Ashok has lost her top spot to Thai player. Sunday has gone horribly wrong for her. She might have to settle for a silver once and for all.

Amlan Borgohain finishes third in the round 1 of the 200m race in Heat 1 to qualify for semi-final. 

Indian shooters Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman displayed their skills in the men's trap event. In the fourth round of the event, Zoravar Singh Sandhu put up an impressive performance by scoring 25 points, currently placing him in third position. Meanwhile, Prithviraj Tondaiman also scored 25 points but is currently in 11th place.

Jyothi Yarraji finishes 3rd in Women's 200m in Round 1 of Heat 1.

In Men's Canoe 1000m, Niraj Verma qualified for the finals.

In Men's canoe double 500mt, the pair of Gyaneshwor Singh & Ribason Singh qualified for the finals.

Both will be in action soon.

Team events for Shooting and Archery are underway.

Women's Heptathlon Long Jump featuring India's Nandini Agasara and Swapna Barman is underway.

While Aditi Ashok maintains her top spot in individual event, Pranavi Urs (another Indian golfer) has also displayed grit as she stands at T11 position in the individual event.

Ashish Limaye, Major Apurva Dabhade, Vikas Kumar are in action in Cross Country events (Team and Individual).
