The All India Football Federation (AIFF) named a 17-member squad for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games. The reluctance of most Indian Super League (ISL) clubs to release their players created a challenge for AIFF, given the scheduling clash between the Asian Games' football competition and the impending start of the ISL (Indian Super League) on September 21
As a result, AIFF managed to put together a 17-member squad, predominantly comprised of inexperienced players, with the notable exception of veteran striker Sunil Chhetri.
However, there remained uncertainty surrounding the participation of head coach Igor Stimac, possibly due to the formidable task of forming a competitive team.
Despite these complexities, the AIFF, with just three days before the team's departure for China, expressed its gratitude to the ISL clubs and the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) for their cooperation in facilitating the release of players for the national team.
The Indian Squad:
Gurmeet Singh, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, Sumit Rathi, Narender Gahlot, Amarjit Singh Kiyam, Samuel James, Rahul KP, Abdul Rabeeh Anjukandan, Ayush Dev Chhetri, Bryce Miranda, Azfar Noorani, Rahim Ali, Vincy Bareto, Sunil Chhetri, Rohit Danu, Gurkirat Singh, Aniket Jadhav.
