Australian Open 2025: Novak Djokovic has reached the pre-quarters of the ongoing Grand Slam in the men's singles category, where he defeated Tomas Machac in straight sets during the third round. The match went for about two hours and 22 minutes in which Djokovic won by 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. This will also be his 17th appearance in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Djokovic dominated the first set as he was able to covert two of his six break points. He was seen struggling in the second set, where he was seen dropping his serve and was trailing by 2-0. But Djokovic bounced back brilliantly as he not only scored the breakpoint but got another one during the second set.
During the third set, Djokovic was leading by 2-0 and looked in sublime form. He will next lock horns with Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka, who defeated France's Benjamin Bonzi.
Coco Gauff breezes past Fernandez
Coco Gauff has reached the fourth round after beating US Open 2021 finalist Leylah Fernandez. The match went on for about one hour and 16 minutes and she won by 6-4, 6-2. Gauff looked in sublime form as she had won eight consecutive matches. She will be playing in a third consecutive quarterfinal match.
During the first set, Gauff broke Fernadez's serve. She did drop her serve once during the second set but broke Fernandez's serve thrice and won the match.
Gauff, who is also the 2023 US Open winner will lock horns with Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, who received a walkover pulled out halfway through the match owing to an injury. Osaka pulled out after she was trailing by 6-7.
