Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna and his Chinese partner Zhang Shuai advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open's mixed doubles event after receiving a walkover in their second-round match on Sunday.

Bopanna and Shuai were up against fourth seeds Taylor Townsend of the United States and Hugo Nys of Monaco but the Indian-Chinese pair moved to the last eight round without taking the court.

Bopanna and Shuai will next play the winner of the match between Hungary's Timea Babos and El Salvador's Marcelo Arevalo, and, the Australian combination of Olivia Gadecki and John Peers.

The Indo-Chinese pair had earlier defeated Kristina Mladenovic of France and Ivan Dodic of Croatia 6-4 6-4 in its opening match.

Earlier, Bopanna and Zhang Shuai secured a spot in the round of 16 with a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory over the French-Croatian pair of Kristina Mladenovic and Ivan Dodig.

Meanwhile, India's campaign in the men's doubles event at the Australian Open 2025 came to a close on Saturday, as N. Sriram Balaji and his partner Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela suffered a second-round exit, bowing out of the competition.

Balaji and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela gave it their all against the Portuguese duo of Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral, but ultimately fell short in a thrilling three-set encounter on Saturday. Despite a strong fight, they succumbed to a 6-7, 6-4, 3-6 defeat.
