JE Sports Desk:  India's young Badminton sensation Lakshya Sen has reached the final of the Canada Open, a BWF Super 500 event, after defeating Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the semifinals.

The youngster has booked his first spot in the BWF summit clash in over a year with a decisive 21-17, 21-14 win in the final four of the men’s singles event in Canada. His last final outing was at the Commonwealth Games in August 2022.

Sen had a nervy start early in the contest as he gave away a four-point advantage to the opponent before practicing patient rallies to draw level at 8-each. Nishimoro looked strong early with a one-point lead of 11-10 before Sen showcased perfect smashes to clinch the first game with a score of 21-17.

The second game looked evenly poised tille 9-all before the Indian shuttler took a commanding position with 19-11 and went on to win the game 21-14 to storm into the final. Currently ranked 19th in the world, Sen got the better of Nishimoto, who is ranked 11th in 44 minutes, showcasing his prowess and determination on the court.

The final will mark Sen's second Super 500 summit clash as he gears up to take on the Chinese shuttler.

On the other hand, P.V. Sindhu, the veteran Indian shuttler, suffered a disappointment in her women's singles semifinal match against world number one Akane Yamaguchi. Sindhu lost in straight games with a score of 14-21, 15-21 that marked her second consecutive defeat against Yamaguchi, having already lost to her in the opening round of the Singapore Open.

The two-time Olympic medallist has been struggling with poor performances on the world tour and hasn't been able to win any title following her return from an injury in January.

Her last win came at the Commonwealth Games in August 2022 before she picked up an ankle injury. She finished second at the Marid Spain Masters and managed a third-place finish at the Malaysia Masters.
