Manchester City vs Wydad Casablanca Club World Cup 2025: Phil Foden scored a goal during the first two minutes and helped Manchester City defeat Wydad Casablanca during their Club World match on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Jeremy Dok scored the team's second goal before half-time and helped City defeat the Moroccan champions in front of a packed stadium.

City suffered a huge blow as Rico Lewis received a red card during the 88th minute for recklessly challenging but manager Pep Guardiola was satisfied with the way they won the match.

"It is so hot. The humidity is not easy. We had some good moments and welcomed many new players. The first game in this group stage is always really, really important. I saw many, many good things," Guardiola told broadcasters during the post-match presentation.

Foden gave Manchester City a flying start as he reacted quickly as Wydad's goalkeeper Mahdid Behnabib surpassed Savinho's cross and scored the first goal.

City then extended the lead just before half-time when Foden scored a corner and caught Wydad's defense off-guard as Doku reached the unmarked post.

City entered the ongoing tournament to make a brilliant comeback.

However, their tournament opener against Wydad, who finished in the third position in the Moroccan league, did pose stiff challenges and will only face tougher challenges ahead. City will lock horns with UAE's Al Ain during their next match and will then face Juventus during their last group-stage match.

Guardiola used the match against Wydad as an opportunity to make some changes in the team as Tijjani Rejjinders and Ryn Cherki made their debut whereas teenager Vitor Reis played his third match ever since he joined the club earlier this year.

As far as Wydad is concerned, their match against Manchester City was always going to be challenging, and the fact that coach Amine Benhachem only took that position just before this tournament started.

"Before the game, I told the players not to be afraid. That if we were going to lose we would lose our way. Nobody likes to lose, but we showed good spirit and we have something to work on for the second match" Benhachem told broadcasters during the post-match presentation.
