Preparations are already in full swing, with rehearsals for the opening ceremony underway as the Scottish city gets ready to host one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world.
Australia dominated the previous edition in Birmingham by finishing at the top of the medal tally and will once again start as one of the favourites. England, Canada, New Zealand and several other nations will also be aiming for a strong campaign. From India's perspective, stars like Mirabai Chanu, Neeraj Chopra and several other athletes will be expected to lead the charge.

However, Glasgow 2026 also brings a major challenge for India. Several medal-rich sports from previous editions have been removed from the programme, significantly reducing India's strongest opportunities. Wrestling, badminton, hockey, table tennis and squash are disciplines that contributed heavily to India's success in Birmingham.
They are not part of this year's schedule. Along with them, cricket, triathlon, rugby sevens and beach volleyball have also been left out, making this one of the leanest Sports List in recent Commonwealth Games history.
Which sports are part of Commonwealth Games 2026?
The Commonwealth Games 2026 Sports List features 10 sports and six para sports, including athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, boxing, cycling, judo, lawn bowls, netball, weightlifting and 3x3 basketball. Para events will be integrated into the programme across multiple disciplines.
