India enjoyed one of its best days at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday, winning historic judo gold medals, adding a double podium in men's javelin, and putting on a dominant show in boxing. The country's athletes continued to deliver across multiple sports, making Day 9 another memorable chapter of the campaign.

Judo creates history

Indian judo reached a new milestone as Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh became the country's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallists in the sport.

Asmita won the women's 48kg title after fighting back brilliantly against Canada's Heidi Quach in a tense final that was decided in golden score.

Harsh followed it up with an impressive win over Australia's Olympian Joshua Katz in the men's 60kg final. He sealed the contest with a crucial waza-ari in the closing moments.

Yamini Mourya also impressed, winning silver in the women's 57kg category after narrowly losing the final to England's Acelya Toprak.

India finished with two gold and one silver in judo, its best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games.

Neeraj and Yashvir deliver javelin double podium

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra claimed the silver medal in the men's javelin throw with a season-best effort of 85.83m despite difficult weather conditions.

Youngster Yashvir Singh stole the spotlight with a personal-best throw of 85.41m on his final attempt to grab bronze in his Commonwealth Games debut.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold with a superb throw of 89.75m.

India also celebrated another athletics milestone as Tejaswin Shankar became the country's first Commonwealth Games medallist in the decathlon, winning bronze with 7,976 points despite competing through a knee injury.

Indian boxers storm into finals

It was a near-perfect day for India's boxing team as 10 boxers booked their places in the finals.

Arundhati Choudhary produced one of the biggest surprises by defeating defending champion Rosie Eccles in the women's 70kg semifinals.

World champion Jaismine Lamboria, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Ankush Panghal, Jadumani Singh and heavyweight Narender also registered convincing victories to move within one win of gold.

Lawn bowls continue strong run

India's men's pairs team of Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar remained unbeaten after registering their fourth straight win in the group stage.

The duo will now face England in a match that will decide the top spot in the group.

Nayanmoni Saikia also recorded a comfortable victory in the women's singles event.

Cyclists struggle

It was a disappointing outing for India's cyclists.

Dinesh Kumar and Harshveer Singh Sekhon could not progress in the men's individual pursuit, while none of the Indian riders advanced in the men's keirin event. Harshveer later finished 21st in the elimination race.
