BWF World Championship 2025: The Indian contingent's hopes of winning their first-ever mixed doubles medal during the ongoing tournament had a disappointing end as Tankisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila were eliminated from the quarterfinals on Friday. The world no.17 lost to world no.4 Chen Tangjie of Malaysia and Toh Eewei quite comprehensively.

Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto had qualified for this match after defeating the World No.5 pair of Tang Chun Mang and Tse Ying Suet during the Round of 16 match. But this Indian pair was defeated during the quarterfinal by 12-21, 13-21 in 37 minutes.

They were just one match away from scripting history by becoming the first Indian mixed doubles pair and also the third doubles pair overall besides Ashwani Ponappa and Jwala Gutta and Satwik-Chirag to have won a medal during the ongoing tournament. The Indian pair couldn't match the level of Tangjie and Eewei during the quarterfinals.

Dhruv and Tanisha had a flying start as they played aggressively and were leading by 8-3 during the first game. But they let Tangjie and Eewei make a comeback by scoring five consecutive points. The Malaysian duo was thus leading at the interval, and that too by just one point.

Dhruv and Tanisha did try to pile the pressure, but the Malaysian duo won the first game as they had scored seven of the last nine points. During the second game, it was the Malaysians who completely dominated and never let the Indians bounce back or take the game towards a decider.

The three-game marathon during the Round of 16 might have taken a toll on the Indian duo during the quarterfinal. Dhruv did survive an injury scare in the second round match earlier this week.

They might have fallen short of winning a medal, but Dhruv and Tanisha would be riding high on confidence. They had also qualified for the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships and the Malaysia Masters this year.

On Friday, star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu will aim to clinch a record-breaking sixth World Championship medal as she will lock horns with Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Warani. Satwik and Chirag will try to win their second world medal as they will lock horns with Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
