Germany grabbed a statement 7-1 win over FIFA World Cup 2026 debutants Curacao on Sunday in an exciting Group E clash. Although the Caribbean nation who became the smallest nation to feature, shocked the German giants with a quick equalizer.
Felix Nmecha gave an early lead to the Germans in the 6-minute mark from a brilliant one-two with Florian Writz, and a brilliant finish at the second post. The defenders could have done much better, as Nmecha got a lot of free space in the box.
After the early strike, German fans were delighted and saw the dominating German side after two poor performances in the previous World Cups. The Germany vs Curacao Match Result reflects Germany's domination in world football.
Curacao’s Historic Fightback
But Dick Advocaat’s men fought back very quickly and shocked the fans with Livano Comenencia’s equalizer on 37th minute. The fans went mad and it was a historic moment for the player himself as he etched his name in the history book as their first goal-scorer in this mega event.
A left-footed strike in a crowed penalty area, showed the class of Comenencia. The German defense were left stranded after a half-hearted clearance from their defender. Jonathan Tah was very slow to react, that costed him the goal.
Manuel Neur could do very little in stoping the phenomenal strike. Manuel Neuer became the oldest Germany player to feature at a major tournament, breaking the record previously held by Lothar Matthaus, set at UEFA EURO 2000.
The 1-1 scoreline raised a lot of questions on 2014 World Champions and accelerated the hopes of Curacao for an upset. However, Germany showed their dominance quickly after, defender Nico Schlotterback who has been linked to Real Madrid recently restored their lead after a brilliant header from Nathaniel Brown inch-perfect corner kick. The Curacao defenders left him totally unmarked, thus giving him, a clear opportunity to score.
"Even though it wasn't me, it felt like it was me, it was all of us who scored, the whole island, everybody,” Curaçao winger Jearl Margaritha exclaimed after the match. He added, “We screamed our lungs out, so we were happy.”
Dick Advocaat put up a strong fight against a much stronger opposition, but the match was going out of their hand after Nmecha was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Star forward Kai Havertz finished a calm and composed penalty for his first and Germany’s 3rd goal just before the half-time whistle.
German Dominance
Germany turned the contest into a one sided affair, after the break as Jamal Musiala latched onto Joshua Kimmich's defence-splitting pass and fired another home. Debutant Nathaniel Brown marked his World Cup journey with a perfect volley before substitute Deniz Undav added another from close range.
Kai Havertz completed his brace late in the game as Germany sealed a dominant victory, leaving Curaçao, the smallest nation in FIFA World Cup history, to reflect on a heavy defeat. The result puts Germany firmly in control of Group E, while Curaçao must now focus on a crucial clash against Ecuador on June 20.
