Lamine Yamal scored a brace in Barcelona’s win against Levante in La Liga on Sunday. The Spanish wonderkid also disclosed his thoughts on winning the Ballon d’Or 2026, making a strong case for himself ahead of the prestigious award ceremony.
Recently, the Ballon d’Or nominees were announced, with Yamal making the 30-man shortlist for the third consecutive year. Kylian Mbappe has also been nominated and is widely considered one of the youngster’s biggest rivals for the award.

The Barcelona sensation thinks he has an edge over his arch-rival Kylian Mbappe, with Yamal highlighting the major trophies he has won with Barcelona and Spain.
He helped Barcelona retain the LaLiga title and was also part of Spain’s FIFA World Cup-winning campaign. Yamal was named LaLiga’s best player for the 2025-26 season.
Lamine Yamal Shares His Thoughts On Mbappe
Yamal believes his success with both Barcelona and Spain gives him a strong argument to win the award. The youngster pointed towards his major trophies this year, including the La Liga title and the FIFA World Cup 2026.
"I honestly believe there are two of us who are the best in the world, and this year I’d deserve it because of what I’ve won," Lamine said in an interview clip on Sunday.
"As far as I’m concerned, Mbappe and I are the two best in the world. It’s clear to me, and everyone who watches the matches knows it."
Mbappe vs Yamal
However, Kylian Mbappe was the top scorer in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and received the Golden Boot award. Along with that, the Real Madrid superstar also grabbed the Pichichi Trophy after being the top scorer in La Liga.
Additionally, he was also the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 season. However Mbappe didn’t win any major trophy for his team.
Yamal’s latest comments come after he finished second in last year’s Ballon d’Or voting behind Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé. The Barcelona forward is now looking to go one step further and claim his first senior Ballon d’Or.
The Ballon d’Or 2026 ceremony will take place at the London Palladium Theatre on October 26.
