"I must say that @TheHockeyIndia has done many good things for India in Hockey. But this is embarrassing. The legacy & identity of the Indian team has always been BLUE. I wore the Blue jersey with pride for many years. Fans want to see our Indian team in blue. What is the logic of orange?"

His remarks quickly gained attention across social media, with fans and former players joining the debate over the team's new look ahead of one of the biggest tournaments on the international calendar.

Why Is The Jersey Change Being Debated?

For decades, the Indian men's hockey team has been synonymous with its blue jersey, earning the nickname "Men in Blue." The blue kit has been worn through several historic milestones, including Olympic campaigns, Asian Games triumphs, Champions Trophy appearances, and World Cups.

The introduction of an orange (saffron) jersey has therefore surprised many supporters, with critics arguing that a drastic colour change affects the team's long-established visual identity.

While alternate jerseys are common in international sport to avoid colour clashes with opponents, many fans questioned why the alternate strip departs so significantly from India's traditional blue colours.

Rasquinha Defends India's Hockey Legacy

Rasquinha, who captained India during his international career and represented the country at the highest level, emphasized that his criticism was not directed at Hockey India's overall work.

His comments reflect the emotional connection many former players have with the traditional jersey, which has become an enduring symbol of Indian hockey.

With the Hockey World Cup fast approaching, attention is now focused not only on India's preparations on the field but also on the conversation surrounding the team's colours.
