French Open 2024: The 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic began his campaign at Roland Garros on a high as he defeated the local favorite Pierre-Hughes Herbert in the first round on Tuesday. He thrashed the World No.142 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in a match that lasted for 2 hours and 31 minutes at the Phillipe-Chartier court.
Novak Djokovic was seen struggling in the second round as Pierre-Hugues tried to pressure him. Although Djokovic was able to win the first set quite comprehensively, he looked in deep trouble when he dropped a serve and was forced into a tiebreaker. But Djokovic bounced back in the second-set tiebreaker and won the match comfortably.
Djokovic celebrated aggressively after winning the match as he was seen struggling in the second set. Pierre-Hughes Herbert didn’t give up easily in the third set and brought the score to 3-3. But then Djokovic bounced back by breaking his serve despite Herbert’s attempt to stay in the match.
Djokovic, who began his campaign on the third day of the French Open 2024, will be quite satisfied after playing in the first round. It should be noted here that Djokovic did attend the match between Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal on Monday.

Djokovic expressed his gratitude to his fans for staying late at night to watch his match. He has now won 72 of 74 first-round matches at Grand Slam. This was his second victory against the Frenchman.
Djokovic will lock horns against Spain’s World No. 63 Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round. Baena had beaten Frenchman Constant Lestienne in the first-round match on Tuesday.
Djokovic will aim to move past his inconsistency and win his fourth French Open title. Despite winning three Grand Slam titles last year, he hasn’t played in the summit clash of any tournament this year.
