India is set to participate in the South Asian Games 2027, which Pakistan will host from April 3 to 11, according to reports following the latest South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) Executive Committee meeting in Islamabad.
The news can be very significant for Indian fans, with political tensions between the two countries always taking center stage.
The schedule and framework of the organization for the Games were approved by the SAOC Executive Committee, which was chaired by the Pakistan Olympic Association. President Arif Saeed looked deeply into the details and gave the approval.

While Representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka attended the meeting in person, India's delegation joined virtually.
Reports suggest representatives from India extended their hand in support of Pakistan in hosting the Games successfully. They even endorsed the schedule that was proposed.
However, India is yet to provide a final formal confirmation regarding their participation.
Pakistan To Host Games After Nearly Two Decades
Pakistan is set to host the South Asian Games for the first time since 2004, making the 2027 edition its first hosting assignment in almost 23 years.

The Games will be held across Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar, with Islamabad serving as the main venue and hosting the opening ceremony.
Lahore will be the center of the main events of the competitions and will host the closing ceremony. On the other hand, several other sporting events will be held in Peshawar.
A total of 28 sports are expected to feature, including athletics, swimming, cricket, boxing, hockey, wrestling, badminton, squash, football, volleyball and wushu.
Athletes from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are expected to compete.
Venue Preparations Underway
During the SAOC meeting, delegates were taken on a tour of sports facilities in Islamabad. Reports suggest Pakistan made a presentation to demonstrate their plan and actions for operations in venues on their preparations.

POA Secretary General Khalid Mahmood and officials from Pakistan's Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination also presided over the meeting.
In recent years, the South Asian Games have been delayed a lot of times. Hence, the confirmation of the 2027 schedule is an important step.
