Australia stayed in control throughout the race, but the fight for third place was much closer. Jersey was ahead after the 350m mark before India briefly moved into third. Jersey regained the position at the 450m mark, making it a tight contest.
The Indian swimmers responded well in the closing stages. They moved back into third with 100 metres left and held on until the finish, crossing the line ahead of Jersey to secure their place in the final.
Looking at the overall results from both heats, India finished fifth fastest. Australia, Scotland, England and Wales recorded better times.
With a stronger performance in the final, the Indian quartet will have a chance to compete for a place on the podium
