Indian Open 2024: HS Prannoy in a sensational display beat Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 21-11, 17-21, 21-18 in a 77-minute battle at the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament.

Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their dominating run by defeating the Danish pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in just 34 minutes. The Indian duo killed the game in straight sets with an emphatic 21-7, 21-10 scoreline.

 

HS Prannoy Masterclass

 

In the match, Prannoy showcased an attacking style, constructing well-planned rallies and delivering powerful smashes. A commanding smash helped him establish an 11-4 lead at the interval. Despite a brief resurgence from Wang, Prannoy secured the opening game with a backhand return.

The second game witnessed Wang stepping up the pace, engaging Prannoy in attacking rallies. The Indian fought back despite Wang's lead, with the crowd rallying behind him. However, Wang managed to secure the second game, forcing the match into a decider.

The third game saw Wang maintaining pressure, gaining a lead as Prannoy continued to battle. The Indian responded with a quick return and a net kill, keeping the score tied at 5-5 initially. Wang surged ahead with a five-point lead, but Prannoy, spurred on by the crowd, clawed back, leveling the score at 15-15.

Prannoy's fighting spirit shone through as he unleashed crucial smashes and net kills. Despite Wang's attempts to counter, Prannoy seized the lead at 17-16. In a tense finish, Prannoy secured two match points and converted the first, sealing his victory.

 

SatChi Dominance

Satwik-Chirag looked aggressive early on, unleashing dominant cross-court smashes that helped them establish a commanding 11-3 lead over the fifth-seed duo. The duo efficiently secured the first set in just 16 minutes.

In the second set, the Danish players managed to match the intensity of the Indian duo, narrowing the gap to 5-6. However, 'Satchi' quickly regained control, surging ahead to 11-5 at the break. The outcome seemed inevitable as the Indians closed the match, with Shetty's superb smash creating a decisive moment, sealing the set 21-10.

In the semi final, Prannoy will face World no 2 Yu Qi Shi who beat Watanable Koki by 23-21, 21-13 in his Quarter final match. On the other hand, Satwik-Chirag will face the Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the Semi final.
