India's Udhayveer Sidhu clinched gold in the men's 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday, October 11. He edged Germany's Olympic champion Christian Reitz in a thrilling final.

The 24-year-old Indian shooter scored 240.6 points to finish just 0.5 points ahead of Reitz, who settled for silver with 240.1. Italy's Paolo Monna claimed the bronze medal with 219.8 points, completing the podium.

Sidhu held his nerve in the closing stages of the final to secure the title, delivering a significant result for India against an experienced international field. Reitz remained in contention throughout the contest, but the Indian shooter maintained his narrow advantage to grab the gold.

Udhayveer Sidhu Qualifies Fourth Before Winning Gold

Sidhu had entered the eight-shooter final after finishing fourth in qualification with a score of 585 points and 19 inner tens.

Italy's Monna topped the qualification round with 586 points and 25 inner tens. India's Jonathan Gavin Antony also recorded 586-25x but competed as a Ranking Points Only (RPO) shooter and was therefore not eligible to contest for a medal.

Reitz qualified in third place with 585 points and 20 inner tens before mounting a challenge for gold in the final. Greece's Georgios Gampierakis finished fourth in the medal round with 198.7 points, while Türkiye's Yusuf Dikec placed seventh with 138.0.

Indian Shooters Miss Out On Final

While Sidhu delivered the standout performance for India, the country's other competitors in the event could not make the final.

Ajendra Singh Chauhan finished 14th in qualification, while Sarabjot Singh ended his campaign in 31st place. Both shooters missed out on a place among the top eight.

The Cairo leg of the ISSF World Cup runs from October 8 to 16 and features rifle and pistol competitions across multiple Olympic disciplines.

Sidhu's victory adds another notable result to India's campaign at the season's final World Cup stage before the ISSF World Cup Final in Rome in December. Sidhu was brilliant with his shooting skills and will look to reach greater heights.
