Lionel Messi admitted that he never wanted to leave his beloved club FC Barcelona and join PSG as he addressed his first-ever press conference for Inter Miami.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner made a sensational move to PSG as his transfer was necessitated by Barcelona's inability to register Messi due to the salary cap rule, despite having agreed on a new contract.

Consequently, the former Barca captain became a free agent and soon joined PSG on a two-year deal.
“I didn’t want to leave [Barcelona] for PSG and that was an overnight decision. I wanted to stay in Barcelona, but I had to get used to a different place, a different place from the one I had lived in terms of the city,” Messi told reporters.
“It was difficult in Paris, but it is quite the opposite of what is going on with me here and now.”
Since joining Inter Miami this year, things have been quite different for Messi, having bagged nine goals in his first six appearances for the MLS club.
Messi also admitted that the move to Miami was a decision taken after deep thinking and is feeling overwhelmed by the support he is receiving since making his MLS debut.
“I chose to come here to this city, it was a decision that we made with time. We didn’t make this decision overnight, and that’s why everything is much easier. We are in the place we want to be and it was our decision, that’s why everything is much easier,” he said.
Messi will have a chance to win his first silverware with the new club when Inter Miami will be up against Nashville on Sunday's Leagues Cup final.
“It would be incredible for me, for the fans, for the club itself,” Messi said.
“The club is trying to grow, they are investing a lot in growing and trying to put together major changes to build a team that is a reference and wins titles. It would be impressive, awesome.

“It’s beautiful how the Inter people come to the matches to support us. The stadium is always full when we play at home.
“It’s a very young club, it was founded just three years ago, and getting the first title would be beautiful for everyone.”
Messi left as a free agent and joined Inter Miami after his contract with PSG got expired as he claimed that he is enjoying the new stage in his career in the United States.
