Inter Miami vs Montreal Match Result: Lionel Messi produced yet another impressive performance as he found the back of the net twice and helped Inter Miami register a 4-1 win over Montreal in their return to Major League Soccer action on Saturday.
This was Inter Miami's first outing following their elimination from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and first MLS match in over a month. They had progressed past the initial phase of the Club World Cup but were defeated 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 last week.
Messi ensured there was no more disappointment for Javier Mascherano’s team, who are aiming to improve on their current sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from 17 matches.
He made a mistake in the first minutes of the match, and then turned things around brilliantly. The Argentine legend's misplaced backpass in the second minute allowed Montreal's Prince Owusu to open the scoring. However, Messi was quick to compensate and set up Tadeo Allende just outside the area in the 33rd minute. Allende lofted a delicate chip over goalkeeper Jonathan Sirios to make it 1-1 as Inter Miami bounced back in the contest.
Seven minutes later, Messi delivered his trademark magic. Cutting inside from the right, he danced past Fernando Alvarez and curled a precise finish to find the back of the net and hand Miami a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Telasco Segovia added a third in the 60th minute with a thunderous strike from distance. Just two minutes later, Messi capped off the performance with a dazzling solo run, weaving through four defenders before finishing clinically.

"It is a great night, we took the three points that were very necessary to start thinking about the MLS again," Mascherano said. “It is never easy to reintegrate into the competition after the Club World Cup, and the players have done it perfectly."
He now has seven goals in his last four MLS matches, bringing his total to 12 in 14 games.
"Leo is happy playing football," Mascherano said. "Every time he is fit, he is going to play. Clearly, we have an extra advantage when he plays, and we want to use that advantage as much as possible."
Miami now faces a hectic MLS schedule, as they will soon be in action with five more matches before the end of the month.
