Inter Miami have signed striker Luis Suarez, the Major League Soccer club announced on Friday as the Uruguayan once again teams up with former Barcelona team mate Lionel Messi.

"I'm very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can't wait to get started, and I'm ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality," Suarez said in a statement.

Luis Suárez joined Inter Miami for the upcoming MLS season as a free agent. This transition comes after the completion of his contract with Brazilian club Gremio at the end of the 2022-23 Serie A (Brazilian league).

Suárez, renowned for his prolific goal-scoring prowess, arrives at Inter Miami following a sensational season with Gremio. In the previous campaign, he not only secured the titles of Best Player but also Best Striker in the Brazilian league. His remarkable contributions included 26 goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances, instrumental in Gremio's triumphs in the Campeonato Gaúcho and Recopa Gaúcha.

Jorge Mas, the managing owner of Inter Miami, expressed confidence in Suárez being a pivotal addition to their roster for the upcoming season. The Uruguayan striker's track record of success and his recent accolades in Brazilian football make him a key asset for the MLS club.

“We are happy to welcome world-class striker Luis Suarez to our club. Luis is a fierce competitor whose winning drive embodies what we want out of our players. We promised our fans we would pursue the world’s best players to build a squad that can compete at the highest echelons in the Americas. Coming off an award-winning season in Brazil, Luis will be a key addition to our roster. We will continue to be ambitious and always strive to pursue the Freedom to Dream,” said Managing Owner Jorge Mas.

Current Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham also praised the 36-year-old and said his arrival will inspire the younger generation.

“We are delighted to have a player of Luis’ quality and passion for the game join our Club. He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation and we look forward to seeing him take to the field with both former teammates and young players from our Academy,” said Co-Owner David Beckham.

Having garnered numerous major accolades in European football, including successful stints with clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Suarez now sets his sights on making an impact in the MLS.
