The World No.1 chess player Magnus Carlsen was quite confident about defeating a weaker D. Gukesh, who is the reigning champion, and reckoned that he was having a hard time engaging with the sport after he lost to Guksh for the second successive time especially after he called him as an inferior. The young Gukesh entered this match and deflated Carlsen in the rapid format at the SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz tournament on Thursday.

And as per Magnus, this format wasn't Gukesh's forte.

He lost to Gukesh for the second time after a few months during a Norway Chess tournament, where Gukesh took advantage of an error committed by Carlsen that forced Magnus to slam the table and that was his way of showing his frustration.

“Honestly, I am not enjoying playing chess at all right now. I just, don’t feel any flow at all when I’m playing. I’m constantly hesitating and it’s just really poor right now," Carlsen was quoted as saying to Take Take Take.

But he is still skeptical of Gukesh's abilities to perform well in faster games. “He’s doing incredibly well now (in the format). It’s a long way to go in the tournament but winning five games in a row is no mean feat," he added.

Carlsen was seen struggling during the ongoing tournament as he had won just one match. He also admitted that his performance has been below satisfactory.

But despite that, he praised Gukesh for taking advantage of his mistakes as he admitted that he was hopelessly lost in the match.

Magnus was leading with white pieces and then resigned after 49 moves.

“I had a very, very nice position. He took his chance to open out his position with C6. After that, it was a little bit like earlier where I got short of time and I couldn’t handle it that well and he found a lot of really good moves" he added.

“I had one last chance at some point to bail out to something that was very, very drawish but I thought let’s continue playing and then a couple of moves later I was pretty hopelessly lost. It was poor but all credit to Gukesh. He’s playing well and is taking his chances too," he concluded.
