The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports revealed the National Sports Awards on Thursday. Manu Bhaker, D Gukesh, Harmanpreet Singh, and Praveen Kumar will all be awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

Bhaker had become the country's first athlete to have won two medals in one edition of the Oympics by winning bronze medal in the 10m air pistol  individual and 10m air pistol mixed team events earlier this year

During the Paris Olympics, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side had clinched its second consecutive bronze medal.

At the same time, D Gukesh had become the youngest-ever World champion and also played a huge role in helping the country script history by winning the gold medal in the 2024 Chess Olympiad. 

Para-high jumper Praveen is the fourth athlete to receive this award as he had won the gold medal in the T64 category at the Paris Paralympics last year. 

This category is for those athetes, who have just one or two legs missing beneath the knee and are dependent on a prosthetic leg. 

The President would be giving these awards at a special event, which would be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17th January. 

On the basis of the suggestions of the comittee and after lengthy discussions, the government has decided to give these awards to the following athletes, coaches and universities:
