Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025: Neeraj Chopra achieved yet another milestone on Saturday as he became the first Indian to have participated in an international tournament as the host at the Sree Kantavara stadium in Bengaluru. His achievements didn't just end there as he finished at the pole position and won the title which already had his name.
Having put up a dominant throw of 86.18m, which wasn't surpassed by any other javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra won the title comprehensively.
Under overcast and windy conditions and the temperature ranging around 24 degrees Celsius, it wasn't a jam-packed stadium but the fans ensured a deafening environment so as to support Neeraj.
His family and his friends also watched the event and were supported by loyal fans during all his attempts in the 12-man tournament. Siddramaiah, who is the Chief Minister of Karnataka also attended the event by sitting at the VVIP area.
The star Indian javelin thrower had a disappointing start as his first attempt ended in a foul. But then Chopra made a brilliant comeback as he occupied the top position during the second attempt after throwing at a distance of 82.9m.
Sri Lanka's Pathirage and Kenya's Julius Yego did give Neeraj a hard time as they came closer to Neeraj's personal best attempt.
But during the third attempt, Neeraj registered his personal best record by throwing at a distance of 86.18m and that was a record which wasn't achieved by any other javelin thrower.
The event, which was earlier supposed to be organized in Panchkula was shifted to Bengaluru owing to lightning reasons since the earlier stadium could have affected live telecast abilities.
World Athletics gave this event a Category A status and was Neeraj's dream project, which plans to build the country as the host of elite-level athletics tournaments.
The event was postponed due to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians had been killed and most of them were tourists.
