As the Paralympics approach, India is poised for a landmark moment, with a record-breaking 84 athletes set to compete in 12 sports at the Paris Games, surpassing all previous contingents and building on Tokyo's success.
Para javelin champion Sumit Antil along with shotput star Bhagyashri Jadhav will have the honour of carrying the Indian flag at the opening ceremony, as the country prepares to compete in 12 sports, including three debut events, at the Paralympics.
India's Paralympic journey begins on Thursday with para-archery events, where Tokyo bronze medalist Harvinder Singh and Sarita will be in action, followed by para-badminton matches featuring titleholder Krishna Nagar, Sivarajan Solaimalai, and Nithya Sre Sivan.
After a remarkable showing in Tokyo, where India won 19 medals and finished 24th in the medal tally, the country's Paralympic team is now focused on Paris, where 84 athletes will compete for a potential 55 medals, aiming to add to India's overall Paralympic medal count of 31.
Paris 2024 will witness the return of four Indian Paralympic gold medalists - Avani Lekhara, Sumit Antil, Manish Narwal, and Krishna Nagar - as they aim to defend their titles in para-shooting, para-athletics, and para-badminton.
