Paris Olympics 2024 Highlights, 5th August: India's Medal-less Campaign Ends In Badminton; Women's TT Team, Avinash Sable Shine

That'll be the end of the day 11 for India at the Paris Olympics 2024. India missed out on multiple medals on Monday including Lakshya Sen's bronze, which would have been the country's only success in Paris in badminton. Avinash Sable and the women's Table Tennis team witnessed promising success on a mixed day. Stay tuned for more action tomorrow.

The draw for India's Vinesh Phogat is out. She will be taking on reigning Olympic Champion & 4-time World Champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the opening round in the women's 50kg category.

India's Avinash Sable has qualified for the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase event. He finished fifth with a timing of 8:15.43 in heat 2.

Avinash Sable is leading the pack at the moment in the men's steeplechase. Six more laps to go.

“After Milkha Singh in 64′ and PT Usha in the 80s, we have so many fourth-place finishes. I think that it’s high time that the players also take responsibility. At least for the results in this Olympics and the previous one, you cannot hold the federations and government responsible for the results. They have all done whatever they can. Ultimately the responsibility is on the players to go and deliver when it matters the most."

“The players need to introspect, and not just keep asking for more from the federations. They need to ask themselves whether they are working hard enough because all of these players have their own physios and all the facilities. I don’t think any other country, including the US, has so many facilities.”

Denmark's Victor Axelsen has clinched a gold medal in the men's singles event. He defeated World Champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-11, 21-11 in the Final to defend his Olympic title.

Nisha Dahiya suffered a defeat by 8-10 in the quarterfinal against the North Korean wrestler. She picked up an injury and lost her promising lead as she was struggling with pain. The whole of the arena have her a standing ovation as she left the mat in tears. 

Nisha is 8-1 ahead in the QF fixture but it seems like she has picked up a hand injury. 

Indian wrestler Nisha Dahiya has made it to the QF in the Women’s 68kg category. She defeated Ukraine's Tetiana S Rizkho in the round of 16.

Lakshya Sen falls short of the bronze medal as he loses to Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia. 

India loses the bronze medal against China. They finish at the dreaded 4th spot.

Lakshya Sen loses the second set 21-16 against Lee Zii Jia. It is 1-1 at the moment. Whoever takes the final set, wins bronze.

Lee Zii Jia is leading the first half 11-8 of the 2nd set against Lakshya Sen.

The brilliant Lakshya Sen takes the first set 21-13 against the resilient Malaysian. 

Lakshya Sen has the lead in the first half of the first set. The lead is now 11-5 in favour of the Indian shuttler.

Lee Zii Jia has chosen the tougher side of the court as Lakshya Sen will be on the receiving side. The match will start soon.

In less than 30 minutes from now (6 PM IST), bronze medal match between Lakshya Sen and Lee Zii Jia will take place. Lakshya, who lost to defending champion Victor Axelsen in the semi final, will play for his maiden medal in the Olympics. 

The team of Anantjeet Singh and Maheshwari Chauhan advanced to the bronze medal match of the skeet mixed team event.

Indian women's table tennis team defeated Romania in their Round of 16 match by 3-2 to book a place in the quarterfinals.

Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamath win the first match to give India a 1-0 lead against Romania. The Indian duo won 11-9, 12-10, 11-7 against Romania’s Elizabeta Samara and Adina.

Indian women’s table tennis team will be in action shortly against Romania in their round of 16 clash.

India’s day 10 at the Paris Olympics 2024 starts with the Skeet Mixed team qualification in which Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka are in action. 

History beckons for Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen as he takes on Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the men’s singles badminton bronze medal match on Monday.,

• Men’s singles bronze medal match - Lakshya Sen vs Lee Zii Jia (MAS) - 6:00pm IST. 

Avinash Sable, the Indian national record holder, will face a strong qualifying field in Heat 2 of the men's 3000m steeplechase.  ,

• Men’s 3000m steeplechase heat 2 – Avinash Sable - 10:50pm IST.

India's women's table tennis team will face Romania in the round of 16. The Indian squad, which includes Sreeja Akula, Manika Batra, and Archana Kamath, is aiming for a quarterfinal position. ,

Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka will compete in the skeet mixed team event, as the shooting action continues.  ,
