Paris Paralympic 2024: Indian contingent concluded their most triumphant campaign ever at the Paris Paralympic 2024, winning an outstanding highest-ever 29 medals- seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze.
India scripted history in Paris, concluding its campaign at 18th position in the medals tally and surpassing its previous best. India's campaign concluded on Sunday as Pooja Ojha failed to qualify for the women's kayak 200m event.
India's overall performance was a resounding success, outshining established powerhouses like Switzerland, South Korea, Belgium, and Argentina.
Avani Lekhara etched her name in the record books by becoming the first Indian woman to claim two Paralympic gold medals, repeating her success in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event with a world-record performance. Furthermore, Mona Agarwal's bronze medal in the same event achieved another historic feat for India - its first double podium finish in a single Paralympic event.

India made history in athletics with a first-ever one-two finish, as Dharambir and Parnav Soorma took top honours in the men's club throw F51 event, with Dharambir setting a new Asian record of 34.92m. Building on this success, Praveen Kumar also shattered an Asian record to win the high jump T64 title, securing India's sixth gold medal.
Meanwhile, Harvinder Singh carved his name in history by becoming India's first gold medallist in archery.
Armless archer Sheetal Devi shortly held a world record in the ranking round, finishing second, and then teamed up with Rakesh Kumar to set a world record score in the compound mixed team qualification event. Sheetal's extraordinary campaign topped as she became India's youngest Paralympic medallist, claiming bronze in the mixed team event with Rakesh Kumar.
India's javelin ace Sumit Antil made history by becoming the first Indian man to defend his Paralympic title, winning gold in the men's javelin throw F64 event with a record-breaking throw of 70.59 meters.
Mariyappan Thangavelu engraved his name in the record books by becoming the first Indian to clinch medals at three consecutive Paralympics, earning a bronze in the high jump T42 class. Preethi Pal accomplished a groundbreaking feat by becoming the first Indian to win a track event medal at the Paralympics, claiming bronze in the women's 100m T35 race. She topped it by winning an additional bronze medal in the 200m T35 race.
Deepthi Jeevanji broke new ground at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, becoming India's first intellectually impaired athlete to win a Paralympic medal with a bronze in the women's 400m T20 class.
Simran Sharma and her guide, Abhay Singh, won bronze in the women's 200m (T12) event, adding to India's medal collection. The country's Paralympic journey ended on a high note, with Navdeep Singh winning gold in the men's javelin throw F41 category, India's 29th and final medal of the games.
