US Open 2024: Reigning champion Coco Gauff came with a 'nothing to lose' mentality in the second round of the ongoing Grand Slam and also worked on her past mistakes by beating Germany's unseeded Tatjana Maria 6-4 6-0 on Wednesday.

Coco, who had defeated Maria in Auckland last year, came back from behind after committing unforeseen errors in the first set and then won the second set with a brilliant backhand. She will now lock horns with Ukraine's 2019 semifinalist Elina Svitolina in the third round.

"I have nothing to lose," she said after the match and also thanked her team for helping her perform better.

"I think we just treat it like practice, at the end of the day. We have fun before and after matches", she revealed.

Gauff was in sublime form as she had dominated in the first set but then the German broke a point by committing unforeseen errors.

But Gauff could barely catch up to Maria like she imagined as she made early exits from both Toronto and Cincinnati and was also seen getting annoyed for committing 20 unforced errors and seven double faults during the first game.

Gauff's remarkable comeback

She then bounced back in the seventh set and took the score to 40-15.

A technical error led to the commentator saying the word 'stop' out loudly at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and urged the players to replay the set point but Gauff remained unfazed by that and walked back to the bench.

Maris dropped a serve due to a double fault in the first half of the second set and Gauff once again forced her to commit an error and took the score to 3-0.

She began playing at the net more and caught Maria off-guard as she bounced back and won the match and also received huge applause from the fans.
