England's celebrations after a dramatic FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 victory over Mexico were overshadowed by a worrying injury to veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson. The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder was taken to hospital after hurting his wrist during the post-match celebrations.

The England national football team booked their place in the quarter-finals with a thrilling 3-2 win over Mexico national football team, thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham and a penalty from Harry Kane. However, the party mood was saddened after Henderson suffered an unfortunate accident.

What Happened to Jordan Henderson?

According to multiple reports, Henderson joined his England teammates on the pitch as celebrations got underway following the victory. During the celebrations, the veteran midfielder accidentally tripped over the advertising hoardings and landed awkwardly, injuring his wrist.

England manager Thomas Tuchel later confirmed that the injury appears to be a serious one and revealed that Henderson had been taken to hospital for further assessment.

"Jordan Henderson just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad," Tuchel said after the match.

"It's quite a serious injury, and it doesn't fit the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital," the England boss added.

Jordan Henderson Injury Update

The full extent of Henderson's injury is yet to be confirmed, but Tuchel's comments suggest the midfielder could be sidelined for a significant period.

The injury is another setback for the 36-year-old, whose FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign had already been limited. Henderson has made only a brief six-minute substitute appearance against the Panama national football team during England's run in the tournament.

If ruled out, the injury would mark a disappointing end to what has been a difficult World Cup campaign for the experienced midfielder.

What's Next for England?

England will now turn their attention to a blockbuster quarter-final clash against Norway national football team in Miami on Saturday.

Tuchel's side already have injury concerns heading into the last-eight encounter, with Reece James sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the tournament.

England will also be without defender Jarell Quansah, who is suspended after receiving a straight red card during the victory over Mexico.

With Henderson now facing an extended spell on the sidelines, England's growing list of absentees could become a major concern as they prepare for one of their biggest tests of the tournament against Norway.
