Arsenal released the following statement regarding the defender's injury:
“Subsequent specialist reviews on William’s return to London this week have confirmed that he has suffered a back injury which will require a period of rehabilitation.
Extensive assessments have concluded that surgery is not recommended, but William should now commence a managed recovery programme.
William’s rehabilitation will commence immediately, with continual management of his injury, and he is expected to be out of action for an extended period. Everyone is fully focused on supporting William to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
The club has not provided an exact timeline for his comeback but stressed that his recovery will be carefully monitored throughout the rehabilitation process.
William Saliba Return Date
Although Arsenal have not announced a confirmed return date, Saliba is expected to miss at least the opening month of the 2026-27 campaign. That means he is likely to be unavailable for the Gunners' Premier League opener against newly promoted Coventry City and could also miss the opening fixtures of the UEFA Champions League.
His return will ultimately depend on how well he responds to rehabilitation. Given his importance to Arsenal's defensive setup, the club is unlikely to rush him back before he reaches full fitness.
