Wimbledon 2025: World No.1 Jannik Sinner lived up to his reputation as a top-tier tennis player, demonstrating exceptional performance as he defeated Pedro Martinez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 in the third round of the ongoing Wimbledon at the historic Centre Court on Saturday.
Wimbledon top seed overcame his 52nd-ranked opponent, who was hampered by a shoulder issue, to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon for a fourth consecutive year.
Sinner dominated the early going, zooming to a 5-0 lead in the first set against Martinez; however, the momentum was halted when the Spaniard opted for a medical timeout to tend to a nagging right shoulder issue.
“I’m very happy to be in the second week, but I think we all saw he was struggling with the shoulder. He couldn’t serve very well, and especially on this surface, if you can’t serve well, it’s not easy to play. But huge credit to him for coming out. From my side, I tried to stay solid from the back of the court," said Sinner as quoted by ATP.
As the second set unfolded, Martinez found his rhythm, striking a barrage of powerful shots which pushed Sinner one step back. The key moment for Martinez emerged when his passion paid off in the eighth game as he collected up four break points.

However, Sinner, known for his brand resilience, combined his mastery and booming groundstrokes to negate the hazard and stave off the break. Ultimately, the top seed's poise paid off as he steered the arm-twisting moments to secure a one-hour, 55-minute victory.
With this notable win, Sinner carved his name in Italian tennis history by securing his place in the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for a record 17th time, surpassing the legendary Nicola Pietrangeli's mark of 16.
