The Indian government is releasing a new Aadhaar mobile app through which the users will have the facility to update their personal details from the comfort of their smartphones. This has been done by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and aims to reduce the need for physical visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras by offering a seamless, digital-first experience.

What the App Will Offer

After it goes live, the app will let Aadhaar cardholders edit important details such as date of birth, name, and address from the comfort of their homes. The facility should go live in the last quarter of this year, as government sources indicate. With Face ID and AI-based authentication, the app is proving both secure and convenient, and Aadhaar services will be easily accessible everywhere across the country.

What Is e-Aadhaar?

e-Aadhaar is the electronic copy of your Aadhaar card. With the new mobile app, e-Aadhaar can be handled even more easily, as users will have to visit enrolment centres only for biometric updates like iris or fingerprint scans. Demographic updates will be done within the application itself—less paperwork and less fraud risk.

Support for Government Documents

To further simplify the process, UIDAI is attempting to auto-retrieve data from sanctioned government databases. Documents to be supported may be birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licences, ration cards (PDS), MNREGA accounts, and even electricity bills to facilitate address verification.

Aadhaar Good Governance Portal

In addition to the app, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has come out with the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal. This portal makes it easy to approve Aadhaar authentication requests, with a view to improve efficiency, inclusion, and accessibility in Aadhaar services.
