A fresh AI trend is catching on across Instagram just in time for Durga Puja. After the viral retro saree edits, users are now creating AI-generated festive saree portraits with Google’s Gemini-powered Nano Banana tool.

The edits feature traditional Bengali sarees, gold jewellery, temple-style decor and glowing festive backdrops, capturing the spirit of Durga Puja and Navratri, which begin on September 22.

Nano Banana, originally known for toy-style avatars, has evolved into a creative canvas. People are using it to design saree looks for each day of Durga Puja, while others are experimenting with pre-wedding portraits and celebrity-inspired festival edits.

The process is simple: upload a selfie, enter a prompt, and the AI generates high-quality portraits with sharp details, cinematic lighting and realistic sarees.

Five Popular Durga Puja AI Saree Prompts

Prompt 1:

“High-res editorial portrait of the uploaded face in a white saree with a deep red border (lal-par). Antique gold jewellery, bold kohl, round bindi. Warm diya glow in a temple corridor, shallow depth of field, soft film grain.”

Prompt 2:

“’90s Bengali cinema look: breezy courtyard, ivory tant saree with vermilion kantha motifs, straight softly-waved hair. Handheld feel with slight motion blur and high contrast. A Durga idol glimpsed in the background. Preserve the original face.”

Prompt 3:

“4K vertical festival portrait during Sandhya Aarti. Red-gold Banarasi saree, intricate gold set, large bindi. The subject holds a brass thali with marigolds and incense. Pandal lights as creamy bokeh. Natural skin texture, no facial change.”

Prompt 4:

“Cinematic Durga Puja night scene. Rich red and gold patterned saree, styled hair in a low bun with gajra, festive makeup. Pandal arches behind with warm tungsten lamps and light haze. Realistic fabric drape, gentle film grain.”
