Belgium's junior minister for the digital economy, Mathieu Michel, revealed today that he is taking proactive actions to safeguard public safety by seeking an analysis of potential health hazards related to Apple's iPhone 12. This action followed France's recent decision to ban sales of the iPhone 12, claiming violations of radiation exposure regulations.
In a statement emailed to Reuters, Minister Michel stated, "It is my duty to make sure all citizens ... are safe."
In response to the French prohibition, Apple defended the iPhone 12's safety credentials, highlighting that the device has been verified by various international organisations as complying with worldwide radiation regulations. The tech giant also submitted lab data from both Apple and third-party tests to back up its argument and stated its intention to appeal the findings.
However, France's actions have raised concerns about possible prohibitions on iPhone 12 sales in other parts of Europe. The German network regulator, BNetzA, is considering similar action and is working closely with French officials. The Dutch digital authority has also stated its intention to look into the subject further and has requested an explanation from Apple.
The minister called the IBPT-BIPT authority to ask for a review of the potential dangers associated with the iPhone 12. Further, he highlighted that he has plans to check on all the gadgets which are manufactured by different companies and see if they follow the regulations.
Meanwhile, the company has already unveiled its latest iPhone 15 series for the global market. The iPhone 15 series comes with a variety of changes if compared to the iPhone 14 series. Apple has added a new chipset, enhanced camera, better design, new action button, and the Type-C port.
The company has also added more features like Spatial Video which will allow users to experience the captured footage in 3D using the Apple Vision Pro.
